Nova in Aquila!
This otherwise unremarkable image captures Nova V1494 Aquilae. It was discovered on December 1, 1999, by Portuguese amateur nova hunter Alfredo Pereira. The nova reached a peak brightness of magnitude 4 but had faded to about magnitude 6 by the time this photo was made on December 10, 1999. Also identified is the bright star Altair (magnitude 0.76).
