Build a Barn Door Tracker
Manually Operated Version
The stubby tripod is made of three pieces of 2 x 4 lumber join with a metal sawhorse bracket. Using simple trigonometry, I calculated the lengths of the legs such that the mount is tilted at an angle of about 43°, which is the latitude at my home in New Hampshire. This makes it easy to align the mount with Polaris (the North Star), which is necessary for accurate tracking. Adjustable feet allow fine tuning of the alignment. The mount is quite stable when placed on the trunk of my car.
